MARK HATFIELD's paints on Somerset or Rives BFK paper that is mounted on board with the deckled edge set back, so that it can float. Somerset is a printmaking paper from the historic St. Cuthbert’s Mill in the UK and  Rives BFK is from France, both are heavy weight high quality printmaking papers which are acid free and PH neutral.  Mark Hatfield prefers the smooth surface of these mouldmade papers to the texture of canvas, and  the solid mount has less bounce for his dynamic brushwork. Works  prior to 2013 are in oil based paint. Hatfield switched to water-based acrylic paint for environmental reasons.

Paintings are sold with and without framing. All frames supplied by the artist are hand-built from quality oak or maple hardwood and then finished with tung oil. The artist selects the color for the recessed area around the painting.
